The Fool's Journey - The Empress

Legacy of the Divine Tarot

Continuance of The Fool's Journey - The Magician, The High Priestess

The Fool soon comes upon a magical scene. A woman stands upon a structure, a meadow behind and a body of water before. The woman is surrounded by creatures both large and small. Plants, fruits and berries are plentiful at her feet.

As the Fool eases closer, the woman directs her attention to him. “I’ve been waiting for you my son. Come closer.”

Mesmerized by her beauty, he steps forward not thinking of the water and to his surprise he remains above the liquid which moves in waves beneath him.

“Come, sit by my side.”

He lowers himself before her and a large cat rests on his lap, a butterfly lands upon his nose, and mouse scurries toward him. “Who are you?”

“I am the mother of all you see, and of you.”

“You are not my mom,” the Fool protests.

“Oh, but I am. The seed that produced you first came from me. I nurture and fertilize the earth.”

The Fool is impressed by all that surrounds the woman, but what can he learn from her. He cannot give birth or nurture.

“You are wondering what you may learn from me?”

“Yes.”

“You do not have to make life to appreciate its beauty. You do not have to have seed to fertilize the world.”

The Fool absentmindedly rubs the large cat’s head and smiles as it stretches and closes its eyes.

“See. That one simple act brings nurturing to the cat before you.”

“So, the lesson you teach is to be kind to animals?”

“That is one of the lessons, yes. But, you should also respect nature in all its glory. This is a natural instinct upon us all, but we must continue to remember to do so, which is the main lesson. Don’t lose yourself in life. Remember where you began.”

“That should be easy.”

“My son, it’s not as easy as you think, but you will be fine.”

The Fool stood, bid her farewell and moved further down the path.
