Two chariots, each drawn by two horses, stopped in front of The Fool and his companion.

The Fool said, “There are no riders.”

“They have come for us. We are the riders,” his companion said.

“How do you know?”

“I do.”

“Why are there two? Can we not ride together?” The Fool didn’t want to leave his lover. They had only just met.

“This is to be a journey of the mind, not the physical. In world time, we will be together, but we must make our own decisions as we move forward.”

“I don’t understand,” the Fool said.

“You will. Come. Let us begin.” She kissed the Fool on the cheek, and then climbed onto one of the chariots. She smiled and waited for him to do the same.

As the Fool settled into his seat, he picked up the reins. The horses moved, yet one moved to the left and the other to the right. The carriage remained unmoved.

The Fool turned to his lover, who had pulled her carriage alongside his. “How do I get them to move forward rather than fighting one another?”

“You must find a balance between the two forces. A clear purpose of destination should be established. You have to develop a middle course between your thoughts, feelings, and wishes. Then, the horses will move as one.”

The Fool closed his eyes and thought upon his journeys. He focused upon his desired direction in life and what he’d like to accomplish. The carriage moved forward.

The Fool's Journey - The Lovers

Legacy of the Divine Tarot

The Fool pulled out the book given to him by the Magician and opened it. Flicking through the pages, he discovered that his knowledge had grown during his journey. He’d learned that everything he needed to succeed was within his grasp or within himself. He’d come to know that the world revolved around nature, society, and religion, but that his path was his to choose.

He returned the items to his bag and stood. Before him, an altar appeared. The most beautiful woman he’d ever seen knelt before a curled snake. The Fool approached the two creatures and knelt before them.

The snake’s tongue lashed out and words flowed from its lips. “It is time...ssss...this woman...ssss... is your other half.”

The Fool stared at the reptile, unable to speak.

The woman reached out a hand, touched his shoulder, and said, “It is time for you to learn to love another. I have been chosen as your mate, if you will have me.”

Warmth spread through the Fool’s chest, and a bright light encircled him. He smiled. “I do accept you. I love you.”

The Fool pulled his mate into his arms and told her of his journey and of all he had learned. As he came to the end of his story, she smiled at him and said, “Yes, I know. I have taken the same journey. It has led me here - to you.”

In the distance, horse hooves pounded the earth, and the lovers rose to discover four horses running toward them.

The Fool's Journey - Faith

Legacy of the Divine Tarot

Continuance of The Fool's Journey - The Magician, The High Priestess, The Empress, The Emperor

Note: This card is also known as “The Hierophant”, “The High Priest”, or “The Pope” depending on the deck you use.

The Fool wandered through the streets, weaving in and out of the people. Voices rose in the distance, and he followed the sound.

He came upon a golden pole, which seem to extend high above into nothingness. Four men, dressed in gowns, stood around the glowing rod, with their heads bowed.

As he grew near, one man raised his head and looked upon him.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt. The words you speak, they sound so beautiful. What do they mean?”

“That would depend on who is speaking them,” the man said.

“Yes, beautiful,” another man said.

All eyes were upon him and the Fool shifted slightly.

“No need to be nervous boy. Come closer, we will teach you,” the man said.

“What do the words mean?” the Fool asked again.

“My brother here speaks the truth.” An older man stepped toward him. “It all depends on the speaker. To one the words may speak of love and tenderness. To another they may speak of respect and loyalty. There is but one God, but his followers follow in many ways.”

“Who is this God that you speak of?”

“Again, it would depend on who you were to ask. God is many things to many people. He may be the provider of your good nature, or to another he may be the light in your heart.”

“How will you teach me?” the Fool questioned.

“We will share with you our thoughts and beliefs, but then you must choose your own path. You may follow with one of us or you may decide to discover your own way. The choice is always yours in the end.”

The Fool stayed with the four men for many days. He listened, learned, and practiced alongside each man, absorbing knowledge. Time neared for his departure. He thanked each man for their help and guidance and bid farewell, promising to continue his studies.

The Fool traveled to the edge of town and sat beside a tree to rest. Beyond the town, the world grew green once again. A road wound downward into a shelter of trees. The Fool closed his eyes and prepared for his journey.
